MBTA Live is a real-time map of Boston’s public transit. It pulls data straight from the official MBTA V3 API — live vehicle positions, routes, stops, accessibility info, predictions, and service alerts — and plots them on a MapLibre GL map (CARTO Voyager basemap). The trains, buses, and commuter-rail vehicles on the map are actual vehicles reporting their own positions, not a simulation: vehicle locations refresh every 15 seconds and service alerts every 30 seconds.
Toggle layers on or off — subway lines, Commuter Rail, the Silver Line, live trains, and accessible stations — and click a stop or vehicle for detail, while the side panel tracks overall system status and active alerts. It is a working example of turning an open public-transit feed into a clean, continuously updating operating picture you can read at a glance.
